Getting Started

Here at LayBack4Fun we are covering 3 areas and as our name suggests it is Laying (betting not to win), Backing (betting to win or get placed) and Fun betting (cheap multiple bets without complications).

The whole point of this site is to help you enjoy racing and cut through the wall of jargon that has built up between the newcomer and what can be both a real fun pastime and a chance to add a bit of cash to the old pocket.

We will do our utmost to avoid any jargon when a simple explanation can be used but there will be instances where it can’t be avoided. When this occurs we will explain what is meant by it and whether it has a bearing on what you should know.
You will probably find that you begin to pick up snippets as you go but learning the language of racing is not one of the things that should stop you from enjoying it.

Costs should be kept to a minimum. You don’t need software, masses of reading material or a massive source of funds to get going. There is a lot out there to help you that costs absolutely nothing.

To get started you don’t need to have an account with anyone to do the backing or fun bets but you will for laying as this can only done at Betting Exchanges.
It is a matter of choice but our view is that it is a good idea to open at least one account to make it easier to operate.
For no other reason than we like to keep things simple, we use Betting Exchanges and the Totes in both the UK and Ireland. Also this means we can use our accounts when we go racing as the Tote and Irish Tote are well represented at every course in both the UK and Ireland.

If you are new to racing and betting or have only ever occasionally dabbled, we strongly recommend you have a look through the Is this right for You? page.

Take some time out to have a wander around the Exchanges and Tote sites, they can be a bit daunting but have a look at our How it Works Pages on each of the sections and they should help you make some sense of it all. You can also watch this tutorial.
